I hinted at this in Reset: I'm consolidating my digital assets. In Reset, I spoke mostly about the front-end, public facing stuff. I've consolidated my entire web-presence besides socials to one webhost. In this post I am considering backend storage. I have some cloud storage already. Right now, I have the obligatory 5GB of Apple Cloud storage, 30GB at Google Workspace, and 2TB with Dropbox. I'm considering expanding Google Workspace to Google Workspace Plus (GWP)… 5TB, for roughly ~$22 per month. I am currently paying almost $8 for Google Workspace right now, and I just dropped YouTube Premium ($15 montly), so that covers my expenses. There is no question about the security, durability, or longevity of the platform. I'm just wondering if GWP is going to be flexible enough for my needs. I've heard good things about Backblaze, for instance. There are other considerations too, I'm using Amazon Web Services for long-term storage… AWS S3 Glacier. I don't know, I guess 5TB of S3 storage would be quite expensive, you're not just paying for storage, you're paying for IOPS and other metered metrics simultaneously with S3. I guess I'm going to look briefly at Backblaze, they have the biggest marketing budget. I'll see if there's anything else I'm missing, and report back here at some point.
